El secretario general de la Conferencia Episcopal de Chile, Monseñor Cristián Contreras Villarroel, manifestó su confianza en que las instituciones competentes, particularmente los tribunales de justicia, funcionarán adecuadamente y esclarecerán las denuncias de irregularidades en Chiledeportes.
Ante una consulta sobre la posición de la Iglesia Católica frente a situaciones de corrupción, el Obispo auxiliar de Santiago expresó que "siempre preocupa, pero vemos que desde todos los sectores se han dado signos muy claros de que las instituciones deben funcionar. Hay una tarea de los tribunales de justicia, hay una tarea también de los políticos. La política es una de las funciones que expresa la más alta forma de caridad, servir a los demás, y tiene la tarea de construir una sociedad distinta, con toda transparencia", manifestó.
Monseñor Contreras agregó que, a pesar de las denuncias de corrupción, “hay de parte de los políticos una mayor transparencia, están buscando formas de institucionalidad que permitan ser mucho más transparente en temas tan sensibles como el dinero".
